Potassium Bromide

Common Uses:
Potassium bromide is used to control seizure activity in dogs. This medication works by depressing neuronal activity and is commonly used in conjunction with phenobarbital. Potassium bromide can also be used as an alternative to phenobarbital when liver toxicity is of concern, due to potassium bromide being primarily excreted through the kidneys.

Phenobarbital

Common Uses:
Phenobarbital is used for seizure control in dogs and cats. Periodic monitoring of drug levels present in your pet may be required to ensure a therapeutic range is maintained.

Diazepam
Medication Class:
Benzodiazepine
Common Uses:
Diazepam may be used for muscle spasms, sedation, separation anxiety, low appetite, and seizure control. May be used as needed for seizure episodes in the form of a suppository, or as a maintenance medication in the dosage forms listed below. When used as a maintenance medication, it is not recommended to abruptly discontinue this medication as this may lead to withdrawal symptoms.

Levetiracetam
Medication Class:
Antiepileptic
Common Uses:
Levetiracetam is used for seizure control as monotherapy or adjunct to other antiepileptic medication. This medication has a quick onset of action and may be used safely in those with decreased liver function. Levetiracetam also has very few interactions with other medications because it is not metabolized through the liver's cytochrome P450 enzyme system.
